Protecting Your Energy: A loving return to yourself🤍

This week’s blog ties in closely with my series of posts on Instagram about how to protect your energy.

Protecting your energy isn’t just something I teach. It’s something I live especially when life feels overwhelming, stretched or just a little bit too much.

And if I’m totally honest, lately there have been a few moments like that.

Nothing dramatic or catastrophic - just that subtle build-up where you can feel your nervous system tightening, your energy thinning and for me complete exhaustion and overwhelm.

That’s always my cue to listen to my body.

It is not telling me to push harder or to prove anything.
But to come back to myself – in the moment.

Because protecting your energy isn’t about shutting the world out – it’s about returning inward.

When things feel too much, I simplify

When I am feeling overwhelmed, I don’t need to look for something new because over the years I have tried many things and I now just return to what I know works for me.

🤍Reiki
🤍Breathwork & Dance
🤍Walking in nature, particularly beside the sea or through the trees in a forest
🤍Sitting with a good friend and putting the world to rights over coffee

There is something incredibly healing about being witnessed without having to be “on”.

These practices aren’t luxuries - they are my anchors and keep me grounded.

Especially when you are someone navigating stress, burnout or a chronic condition. Your energy is already doing such a lot behind the scenes and it deserves protection. It deserves tenderness.

The real energy work: meeting your triggers

For me, protecting my energy also means looking at what drains it internally.

And quite often, that’s a trigger – an emotional response to something (we may not even know what!).

I prefer the word trigger to shadow because it feels more honest, although it is the shadow work that we are working through. It’s the moment something catches. Something stings. Something feels bigger than it probably should.

That’s my invitation to take a pause. Instead of reacting outwardly, I try to go inward (using my journal) and ask myself the following:

💚What am I actually feeling?
💚What belief is sitting underneath this?

💚What story am I telling myself?

Sometimes the belief is old. Very old.

“I’m not good enough.”
“I need to prove myself.”
“If I don’t keep everyone happy, I’ll be rejected.”

When I uncover the belief, I sit with it for a while – what is it I actually fear and why is it making me feel uncomfortable? What is it I want to bring from the shadow into the light?

Lately, I’ve been working deeply with the Violet Flame - a transformational energy frequency that helps transmute and shift lower vibrational patterns. I imagine it surrounding the old belief that is limiting me, I visualise the flame softening and dissolving it.

And then I consciously choose to reframe.

✨A new story.
✨A new feeling.
✨A new belief.

This is where the real reset happens.

It is quite literally retraining your mind and nervous system to respond from a place of love and light instead of fear.

Boundaries begin within

We often think protecting our energy means saying no to others. And yes, sometimes it does.

But more often, it starts with actually saying no to our inner critic.
No to the old programming.
And no to the belief that you must earn your worth.

If the way we speak to ourselves internally is harsh and mean, your energy will always feel under threat and your nervous system will be dysregulated.

If your internal narrative is loving and gentle, your boundaries become natural.

Not sharp or defensive.
Just clear.

And clarity is so powerful.

A loving practice you can try yourself

Self Awareness is key - having a deeper awareness of your triggers, that cause emotional responses can help you to step into your own personal power and claim the life you desire.

If something has triggered you recently, try gently journaling on this:

➡️What happened to trigger this response?

➡️What did I feel in my body?

➡️What belief has surfaced?

➡️Where does this belief come from?

➡️What would a loving reframe of this belief look like?

Then sit with this this new belief, as you rewrite your internal narrative - visualise the shadow being taken over and enveloped by the light, really feel into this new belief – this new story and take a few deep breaths.

Place your hand on your heart and remind yourself:

“I am safe to choose a new story.”

Repeat this as many times as you need to hear it – repetition helps reframe those internal beliefs.

We ALL deserve unconditional love

Especially from ourselves.

Protecting your energy isn’t about becoming tougher or colder, it is about becoming more compassionate with your own healing.

Being more aware of your patterns.
More intentional with your responses.
More loving and gentle with your own inner dialogue.

This is the work.

And I am right here in it with you.

If you are feeling stretched, overwhelmed or unsure where your energy is going, please know you are not alone. Sometimes we just need gentle support while we remember our own strength.

Energy protection isn’t dramatic.

It’s a daily practice.

It’s small choices and conscious reframes.
It’s coming home to yourself again and again.

And you are worthy of that return – to step into your power and live that soul aligned life that you desire.

Love & light,

Donna Marie 💚
