Gratitude in the Moments That Feel Hard
I always like to keep my blogs honest and keep myself accountable, however, this week, I’m writing from a very real place and I am not going to lie it is kind of hard getting my words out.
There have been moments over the past few days where I’ve felt overwhelmed, emotional and deeply triggered. The kind of moments that bring old feelings to the surface…
Where your chest feels tight, your thoughts race and your body shifts straight into fight or flight.
I had planned to write about gratitude at the beginning of the week but in moments like this, gratitude can feel out of reach.
Not because it isn’t there…
But because your body is trying to find safety first.
When Your Body Needs Something Different
We often talk about gratitude as something that lifts your energy. And it definitely does - but only when your nervous system feels safe enough to receive it.
When you’re feeling completely overwhelmed, the first step isn’t to “think positively” or “count your blessings.”
It’s to try and slow down.
💚To breathe.
💚To soften.
💚To allow your body to begin to settle.
A Different Kind of Gratitude
So today, gratitude doesn’t look big or expansive - it looks gentle.
It looks like:
✔️Taking a breath when everything feels tight.
✔️Giving myself permission to take a step back.
✔️Choosing not to push through when I feel overwhelmed.
It’s quieter than usual.
But it still counts.
✨A Reminder for You✨
If you’re feeling emotional, triggered or unsettled right now…
Please know you are not alone and you are not doing anything wrong.
Your body is responding in the only way it knows how to keep us safe and sometimes, the most supportive thing you can do is meet yourself exactly where you are.
A Gentle Practice
Instead of asking yourself to feel grateful for everything…
✨Ask yourself:
What feels even slightly supportive right now?🤍
Let that be enough.
There is still healing happening here, even in the moments that feel messy and hard.
And sometimes, gratitude begins there.
Love & light,
Donna Marie💚
