Breaking the Cycle: Releasing limiting beliefs and creating your own story💚✨

An Energy Whispers blog inspired by the Hunter’s Full Moon and the Elder oracle card pulled this week.

Have you ever stopped to think about how many of your beliefs are truly your own? After pulling Kyle Gray’s Elder oracle card on Monday, I have been thinking and reflecting a lot on this exact topic.

Sometimes we move through life following the same patterns of behaviour without really questioning where they came from. We might find ourselves putting everyone else first, feeling guilty when we take time for ourselves, believing we have to work harder to prove our worth, or worrying about what other people might think if we choose a different path.

These behaviours can become so familiar that we don't even recognise them for what they are. They're simply the way we've learned to live, the things we've always done, or the expectations we've grown up with.

But what if some of these beliefs and behaviours are no longer serving our highest good? What if we're ready to make changes – to do things differently?

This week, my Energy Whisper brought through the card Elder - Move Beyond Ancestral Patterns, from the Angels and Ancestors Oracle by Kyle Gray. Its message feels particularly fitting as we reflect on the Hunter’s Full Moon and the opportunity to consider what we're ready to release and let go of, leaving space for something new.

Understanding the patterns we carry

We all have a story, and I like to say that we are all on our own unique journey. It is shaped by our upbringing, our experiences, the people around us and the lessons we've learned along the way.

Our families and previous generations can have a significant influence on how we see ourselves and the world around us. We may grow up hearing certain messages about success, money, work, relationships, emotions or what it means to be a good person.

Perhaps you were taught that you always have to be strong, that putting yourself first is selfish, or that you should keep going regardless of how tired or overwhelmed you feel. Maybe you learned that keeping the peace and staying quiet was more important than speaking up, or that being successful meant working extra hard and never giving yourself permission to stop and rest.

Sometimes these beliefs are passed down through generations, often without anyone consciously realising it is happening. They may have developed from difficult circumstances, the expectations of the time or the ways people learned to cope with life. We can also develop limiting beliefs through our own experiences and relationships as we grow.

Whatever their origins, these patterns can become deeply ingrained and we may continue to follow them long after the circumstances that shaped them have changed.

The first step isn't to blame ourselves or anyone else. It's to become aware.

When we begin to notice our patterns, we create an opportunity to pause and ask whether they still feel right for us.

✨Are you living by your own beliefs or someone else's expectations?✨

This is something worth sitting with for a moment. How often do we make decisions based on what we think we should do, rather than what feels right for us?

➡️We might say yes when we really want to say no.

➡️We might keep pushing ourselves because resting makes us feel guilty.

➡️We might stay in situations that no longer feel right because we're worried about disappointing someone or being judged for making a change.

We can spend so much time meeting expectations, fulfilling responsibilities and trying to be who others need us to be that we gradually lose touch with what we actually need ourselves. And sometimes we don't even realise we're doing it, we simply carry on with life, because that's what we've always done and we don’t know any different.

But… just because something is familiar doesn't mean it has to remain part of our story. Perhaps it's time to ask ourselves a few questions. ⁉️

➡️Am I doing this because I genuinely want to, or because I feel I have to?

➡️Does this belief support the person I'm becoming, or does it hold me back?

➡️Am I making this choice from a place of love and self-trust, or from fear, guilt or the need for approval?

There aren't necessarily right or wrong answers, these questions are simply an invitation for you to become more aware of what's influencing your choices.

✨And awareness can be such a powerful place to begin✨

You can honour your past without repeating it

One of the things I love about the message of the Elder card is the reminder that we can honour where we come from while still choosing to move forward on our own path. Moving beyond ancestral patterns doesn't mean rejecting our families, forgetting our roots or blaming previous generations for the challenges we experience.

It means recognising that we can appreciate what has been passed down to us while also deciding what it is we want to carry forward.

Some of the beliefs and values we've inherited may be beautiful and worth keeping. Others may no longer fit the soul aligned, authentic lives we want to lead.

✔️We can be grateful for the strength, resilience and wisdom of those who came before us without feeling that we must repeat every experience or follow every expectation.

✔️We can love our families and still set boundaries.

✔️We can respect other people's choices without making the same choices ourselves.

✔️We can learn from the past without allowing it to dictate our future.

✔️And we can choose a different way, even when that feels unfamiliar.

Sometimes, breaking a cycle begins with something small. It might be allowing ourselves to rest without feeling guilty, expressing how we really feel, asking for help, or finally giving ourselves permission to pursue something we've wanted for a really long time.

Remember, we don't have to change everything overnight - we simply need to begin noticing where we have a choice.

✨The time is now. It stops with you.✨

Not because you have to fix everything that came before you, but because you have the opportunity to decide what happens next.

The Hunter’s Full Moon: Making space to release

The Full Moon is often used in spiritual practice as a time for reflection, gratitude and letting go. It offers a symbolic opportunity to pause, look at what we've been carrying and consider what we're ready to leave behind. I like to think of releasing as making space.

When we begin to loosen our grip on old beliefs, expectations and behaviours that no longer feel right, we create room to explore new possibilities. This doesn't mean we can simply decide to release a belief and never struggle with it again. Some patterns have been with us for years, and changing them can take time, patience and support.

But we can start by acknowledging them and being aware of them.

We can notice when an old behaviour shows up, become curious about what's happening and choose how we want to respond, rather than automatically doing what we've always done.

And we can remind ourselves that change doesn't have to be dramatic to be meaningful.

Sometimes it's one different decision. One boundary. One moment when we choose to listen to ourselves instead of ignoring what we need.

Over time, these small choices can help us create a life that feels more aligned with who we are now.

A simple release and reflection practice

If this message resonates with you, why not take a little time for yourself this week?

Find somewhere quiet where you can sit comfortably without feeling rushed. You might like to light a candle, make yourself a cup of tea, have your journal nearby or choose a crystal to sit with that feels right for you.

Take a few slow breaths and allow yourself to settle.

You don't need to force anything to come up or find all the answers. Simply give yourself a little space to reflect.

Here are some journalling prompts to get you started:

➡️What belief or behaviour am I ready to question? Is there something I keep doing because it's familiar, even though it no longer feels right?

➡️Where might this belief have come from? Was it something I was taught, something I experienced, or a way I learned to cope?

➡️How does it affect me today? Does it support my wellbeing and growth, or does it leave me feeling restricted, overwhelmed or disconnected from myself?

➡️What would I like to choose instead? What might a kinder, more supportive belief look like?

➡️What small step can I take this week? Is there one decision, boundary or behaviour I can approach differently?

Write whatever comes to mind without judging yourself. You don't need to find perfect answers, and you certainly don't need to solve everything in one sitting. When you're ready, you might like to finish by writing down one thing you're willing to release and one thing you'd like to welcome into your life.

You could even say quietly to yourself:

“I acknowledge the past, but I give myself permission to choose my future.”

Affirmations are such a wonderful way to make change in your life, to be able to change a habit repetition is key, so perhaps try repeating this same affirmation daily for a few weeks and see how you feel.

Crystals to support your reflection

If you enjoy working with crystals, there are three that feel particularly fitting alongside this week's Energy Whisper.

Smoky Quartz🤎 is traditionally associated with grounding, protection and letting go. It can be a lovely companion when you're reflecting on what you're ready to release and want to feel more grounded in the present.

Moonstone 🤍🩵is traditionally associated with intuition, inner wisdom and new beginnings. You might choose it as a reminder to listen to yourself and trust that you're allowed to take a different path.

Selenite 🤍 is traditionally associated with clarity, cleansing and peaceful energy. Its soft, luminous appearance makes it a beautiful companion for a quiet moment of reflection.

You could hold a crystal while journalling, place one beside your notebook or simply keep it somewhere you'll see it as a reminder of the intention you've set.

You don't need crystals to take part in this practice. What matters most is the time you give yourself to pause, reflect and consider what feels right for you.

Creating your own story

We cannot change everything that has happened before us, and we cannot always control the circumstances we find ourselves in. But we can become more aware of the beliefs we carry, the behaviours we repeat and the expectations that influence our choices.

We can learn to recognise when we're living on autopilot and give ourselves permission to pause. We can choose to keep the lessons that support us and gently question those that no longer fit and we can remember that choosing differently doesn't mean we've failed anyone - it simply means we're allowing ourselves to grow.

Perhaps the most important part of this week's Energy Whisper is the reminder that our past may have helped shape us, but it doesn't have to define everything that comes next.

✨You are allowed to change your mind ✨You are allowed to set boundaries ✨You are allowed to want something different ✨And you are allowed to create a life that feels true to you.

So, as we reflect under the Hunter’s Full Moon, I invite you to consider this:

➡️What are you ready to stop carrying, and what would you like to make space for instead?

You don't have to know exactly where the path will lead, you only need to give yourself permission to take that first step.

Finding support on your journey

Sometimes we can recognise that a pattern isn't serving us but understanding how to move forward can feel more complicated. Through my work with Donna Marie Healing and Coaching, I offer a supportive space for self-reflection, energy alignment and exploring the changes you'd like to make in your life.

My one-to-one energy coaching and The Aligned Energy Reset offer opportunities to explore areas such as self-trust, boundaries, personal growth and reconnecting with what matters to you. Depending on your needs, sessions may incorporate energy-based practices such as Reiki, EFT and visualisation.

Remember, you don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes the first step is simply being willing to explore what is happening and what you'd like to do differently.

If this is something you'd like support with, you're welcome to get in touch and we can have a conversation about what might be right for you.

Until next time, take a little time for yourself, be gentle with what comes up and remember that you are allowed to create your own story.

Love & light,

Donna Marie💚✨
