Freedom of Self – Wellness Wednesday Reflections

It’s Wellness Wednesday again and honestly, I don’t know where the last week has gone?

After pulling Horse Spirit – Freedom is yours oracle card earlier this week, I’ve been sitting with this and thinking about what freedom really means – not just for me, but for the people I work with. Not freedom in the loud, external sense (although that can be part of it), but freedom of self - our inner freedom. The kind that allows you to breathe a little deeper and soften into who you truly are.

This work isn’t about fixing yourself - you are not broken!
Healing begins when we create a feeling of safety within the body - a space where the nervous system can soften, open and begin to trust. From that place of safety, real healing can take place.

Freedom comes from empowerment. From stepping into your own personal power and giving yourself permission to experience joy, ease and happiness - not as a reward for doing more, but because you deserve it.

It’s not about being “perfect” or “polished”.  It’s not about having the perfect routine or rigid structure every single day. Healing is about feeling. Allowing yourself to feel anger, sadness, sorrow, grief or heartbreak without letting those emotions take control.

When we suppress or ignore how we feel, the body keeps a hold. (I read a great book about this several years ago called The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk – it is definitely worth a read!). When we acknowledge, accept and gently release those emotions, we give them space to be transmuted, back to the universe, back to the earth - with thanks, with love and light.

So many of us were brought up to stay quiet, to paste that smile on your face, to  be the best, to be seen and not heard - to be a good girl (or boy)!

But deep down, you know when something just doesn’t feel quite right. It can feel like you’re constantly performing and the truth is, you probably are. The beautiful thing is, you always have a choice. You can stop acting right now and start listening.

Your body does hold wisdom and it remembers.
Your feminine power - your being, not your doing (masculine power)  lives in the present moment. Right here - in the here and now.

This is where I love practices like journaling and affirmations as they become powerful healing tools. Writing allows us to express our feelings and emotions to move. It helps unblock what’s been stuck and gives your inner world a voice. And the best part? Nobody has to read it but you, there is no judgement - just true honesty.

Simple affirmations repeated daily can gently rewire beliefs and bring you back into alignment. Journaling doesn’t need to be neat or perfect - it just needs to be real. Keep an eye on my page as I’ll be sharing more about a journaling workshop in the near future for anyone feeling called to explore this deeper and would like a little support.

In the meantime here are a few affirmations you can use based on freedom, safety and unlocking your inner power.  You may wish to repeat these affirmations daily, or whenever you feel disconnected or overwhelmed. Speak them softly, write them down, or place a hand on your heart as you say them with intention:

  • I am safe to feel and express my emotions.

  • I release what no longer serves me with love and compassion.

  • I trust my body and the wisdom it holds.

  • I choose freedom, ease and alignment.

  • My power lives within me, and I honour it gently.

Allow these words to settle into your body — there’s no need to rush.

And here are a few journaling prompts that you may wish to use also based on the same theme of freedom, safety and inner power. You may like to set aside a few quiet moments with your journal and allow these prompts to guide you. There’s no right or wrong just simply breathe and let the words flow.

  • What does freedom truly mean to me right now?

  • Where in my life am I still performing, rather than being my true self?

  • What emotions am I holding onto in my body that are asking to be felt, acknowledged and released?

  • What would it feel like to create safety within my body and what helps me feel that sense of safety?

  • If I fully trusted myself, what choice would I make next?

Remember, journaling isn’t about analysing - it’s about listening and expressing your inner truth.

A crystal I love working with for this is Smoky Quartz🤎 grounding, protective and deeply supportive when releasing heavy or stuck energy. It’s a beautiful ally when you’re learning to let go and to come back into your body.

Just a final reminder - Freedom isn’t something you have to earn - it’s something you remember. And it’s already yours 🤍

If any part of this resonates with you,  if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected or quietly craving something more please know that you don’t have to navigate it alone.

I offer Reiki healing and coaching sessions that provide a calm, supportive space to help you reconnect with your body, release what you’ve been holding and gently step back into your own freedom. There is no pressure, no fixing — just space to be held, supported and guided in a way that feels right for you.

Sometimes, the most powerful step towards freedom is simply allowing yourself to receive support 💚

Love and Light,

Donna Marie x
